In true filmi style, Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel of Neral station and the Neral police managed to apprehend a man who was on the run after a murder in Navi Mumbai. A joint operation of the RPF and the Neral police managed to catch the murder accused, who the cops had been looking for since July 17.

On July 17, Raja Kahinath Waghmare, a Neral resident, was found murdered and subsequent investigations into the case zeroed in on a West Bengal native by the name Jitu Das (20). On July 19, with the police realising that Das was on the run, photographs of the accused was circulated across various police WatsApp groups. Among the recipients of the photographs of Das was the RPF units of the Central Railway.

On Tuesday, at around 10:50am, RPF constables Nilesh Somwanshi and Pravin Parkhe of RPF Neral outpost, who were on track duty, thought the man they had spotted walking towards Neral station might be Das.

Speaking to dna, a senior RPF officer said, "Both the RPF staff started following this man they believed was Das. They also informed the location of Das to their superior RPF sub-inspector CP Singh on phone. Using the knowledge of the topography of the railway stretch around Neral, they assessed that the accused would be reaching gate No. 20 by foot, which was about 3km away."

Sub-inspector Singh, who was informed of this, wasted no time in contacting Neral city police inspector RD Patil. "Based on this information, inspector Patil sent a team of Neral cops by road towards level crossing gate number 20. Close coordination between the police and RPF on phone resulted in Das getting caught at gate number 20," explained the RPF officer.
