Two days after a state-appointed ayurveda practitioner joined the Maharashtra Medical Coucil (MMC) as a registrar, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) — the umbrella body of allopathy medicine practitioners — has approached the Bombay High Court against the appointment and written a letter to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis about the same.

Dr Dilip Wange, the newly appointed registrar of the MMC, is also an associate professor at RA Poddar Ayurveda College and a registrar of the state's ayurveda council. Dr Jayesh Lele, president, IMA, said: "With so many responsibilities already, he won't be able to do justice to his present appointment. The MMC is the state's most important quasi-judicial body of doctors that serves as an ethical watchdog, responsible for medico-legal cases and grants registration to doctors."
