The parents of 12-year-old Rohan Gucchiya, who was kidnapped and killed in Kalyan, have requested the police to investigate their son's case fast and give them due justice.

The family members, on the other hand, are finding it hard to believe that the mastermind behind the whole episode, Isaq Sayyed Shaikh, is the electrician who used to do all odd jobs for them. Shaikh, in fact, has a shop adjacent to Rohan's father Uttam Gucchiya's jewellery shop.

According to the police, Shaikh used to go to the victim's house often. He payed the utility bills and also did the bank work for the Gucchiyas. In fact, he had good knowledge about the family's affairs. At times, Shaikh used to take his friend Imtiyaz Abdul Sattar, another accused in the case, with him to their house. The third culprit, Nilesh Salvi, used to work with Shaikh and Ganesh Patil, was his friend.

Police inspector Ravindra Tayade of Bazarpeth police station said: "We are trying to figure out why the culprits asked for Rs50 lakh as the ransom amount for the release of their victim. We have assured the family that the case will be solved at the earliest. We are checking with he other police stations if anyone of the accused has any link with some gangs."

Another officer from the Bazarpeth police station said, "Their idea behind asking for Rs50 lakh could have been to eradicate their poor state. As they perceived that the victim's parents were afflent people, they grew greedy."

According to sources, the accused had killed the boy and chopped his body into pieces after they came to know that a police complaint has been filed by his parents. The police, on the other hand, came to know about the main culprit after tracing his phone call locations.

The four accused have been booked under 363 (punishment for kidnapping), 364 (kidnapping or abducting in order to murder), 302 (punishment for murder), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence or giving false information to screen offender) and 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of the IPC.

All the four accused were produced in court. They have been remanded in police custody till May 7.

Meanwhile, the Sundar Nagar area is under a blanket of silence. Police patrolling in the area has been increased after the incident.
