In a shocking incident of road rage, a 31-year-old IT executive was allegedly manhandled and his pregnant wife was abused and threatened by three motorists in Marol, Andheri East recently. The victim has registered a case with the Powai police on Monday, and no arrests have been made yet.

The victim, Rakesh Salian and his eight-month pregnant wife Nisha, 26, (names changed) were driving to Hiranandani hospital in Powai from Andheri East on Thursday evening when they encountered a rash motorist on a scooter. Narrating the ordeal, Salian said, "The incident happened at Military Road in Marol. There was heavy traffic on the road and out of nowhere a man on a scooter appeared in front of my car and I had to brake really hard to avoid hitting him. He was riding in the wrong direction. When I applied brakes suddenly, he lost control of his vehicle and fell of. I did not hit him. When he started abusing me, I drove forward."

The scooter driver made frantic phone calls and gave chase to the couple. In a short while, two other people in their 20s came on a Honda Unicorn bike, and chased them. "Both the vehicles chased us for the next 200 metres and they were kicking the car and signalling us to stop. I rolled down the window and told them that my wife was pregnant and we were late for a medical appointment. But they started becoming violent and I decided to stop," added Salian.

After he stopped the car, the trio came forward and punched Salian through the window and tried to open the car door. When they couldn't, they went for the car keys; when Salian resisted, they punched him again. "Things were getting out of control, and my wife started calling for help and pleaded that they stop. They abused her and threatened to punch her. My nose was bleeding heavily. I had to call out for help as they were trying to drag me out of the car," said Salian.

Hearing their cries, a few passersby came to their help and managed to stop the trio from harassing them further. "I immediately approached the Powai police and they registered a non-cognisable offence. However, an NGO who got to know of the incident wrote to the commissioner of police who further directed the Powai police to take an FIR." Salian said.

On Monday, an FIR against three unknown persons was taken under sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 34 (common intention) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Yadavrao Jadhav, senior police inspector of Powai said, "We have registered a case against the unidentified trio. We are tracing the accused through the registration number of the bike (which was provided by Salian). We are also scanning the CCTV footage of the area for more leads."
