In a survey, Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra)-led Mumbai Metro has termed Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro as the cleanest public infrastructure, by not comparing it with its cleaner counterparts like Mumbai Monorail and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA).

This survey has compared the Metro with local trains, buses, malls, multiplexes and parks, but interestingly, has purposely kept out relatively cleaner public infrastructure locations like the airports and monorail from comparison, therefore giving themselves the title of being 'cleanest' on the basis of misleading and incomplete data.

Jitendra Gupta, a member of Mumbai Transport Forum (MTF), said that it was obvious that the survey hadn't included the airport and the monorail. "They just want to show themselves as being the cleanest despite there being cleaner alternatives available in Mumbai," he said.

The MTF member added that it was nothing but a biased report, saying: "They just want to show the civic body in a bad light and do not want to highlight better public infrastructure available in the city."

As per the survey results, 54% of the participants mentioned Mumbai Metro to be the public infrastructure that most exemplifies the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The remaining respondents (46%) rated other locations as cleaner areas.

The report states that the reason behind keeping Mumbai Monorail away from comparison is the project being smaller in size and catering to a 'specific population'. However, a spokesperson of Mumbai Metro said that the survey group was unable to find a single person who had travelled on the Monorail. The average daily rider-ship of monorail ranges between 14,000 to 15,000.

According to a Mumbai Metro spokesperson, the reason behind why CSIA was kept out, is less locals and more foreigners using it and not because of the fact that it is a public infrastructure project based in Mumbai.

Nonetheless, while public parks too have been compared for cleanliness levels, the report fails to identify which particular park in Mumbai was taken up for comparison.
