Revenge on mind, 2 boys slit girl’s face with blade

Two boys slit a 15-year-old girl’s face while she was on her way home from college on Friday to take revenge for having been verbally abused by her a day earlier. Diva resident Mona Chowdhari, who is pursuing a vocation course in baking at Shirodkar high school, Parel, has been admitted to KEM hospital with 7-8 stitches and three deep cuts on her face.

“The sole motive of this attack is revenge. The girl had abused two boys —Prashant Bhule and his friend Sunny — on Thursday after Sunny pushed her a day before,” said Vikram Patil, senior inspector of the Bhoiwada police station. It is not clear if the victim knew the boys.

After attending college on Friday, Mona was on her way home when she was accosted by Sunny and Bhule on Dr E Borges Road near KEM hospital. They slit her face with a blade and fled from the spot. While Sunny managed to escape, Bhule was chased down by passersby near BK Nadkarni hospital.

Doctors treating Mona said she is stable and that they will remove her stitches after a week. Mona’s father, Suresh, said he was unaware that the boys were troubling her. “Her friends informed me about the incident at 11.30am. I was shocked to see her with stitches and cuts on her face,” he said.

While Bhule, a school dropout who lives in Dharavi, is in police custody, Sunny, a resident of Diva, is absconding.
