Reticent railway police to up its social media presence

The railway police commissionerate is currently evaluating its presence on various social media platforms with a plan to move to a single platform to connect better with passengers. The railway police isn't very active on social media platforms as the Twitter handle — @cpmumbairly — has not seen a single tweet since getting created in June 2015.

On the other hand, thanks to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu's penchant for using social media as a tool for publicity as well as looking into commuter grievance, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) is regular with its tweets.

The contrast between the two railway security agencies was stark last week after a Kalyan resident whose relative had lost her mobile phone at Dadar station started a Twitter conversation with railway authorities including Prabhu through the latter's twitter handle @railminindia. Soon the rest of the railway twitter handles from Mumbai joined in to give information to the resident. These handles that responded were of the RPF. However, the railway police was missing in action despite the passenger having filed a case with the cops.
