Results delay: Mumbai University list of measures on Aug 24

A division bench consisting of Justice AV Mohta and Bharti Dangre has asked Mumbai University to furnish details of the measures it is taking to ensure students do not miss opportunities of higher education due to the delayed results. The response is expected to in by August 24 as the court " coming up with a new evaluation system is a good step but what is happening to the students' future is a matter of concern" the court observed.

Bringing relief to thousands of law students in the state, the state government informed the Bombay High Court that it would extend the admission deadline for the LLB course to August 31. "A meeting of state officials would be convened on Wednesday after which an official notification would be released," said the state counsel on Tuesday.

The court was hearing a series of petitions filed by Mumbai University students. One of the petitions filed by three law students Sachin Pawar, Abhishek Bhat and Ravishekhar Pandey seeks Rs 10 lakh as compensation for the academic loss of students as they cannot secure admissions to various reputed universities in the country and abroad due to the university's delayed results.

Advocate Rui Rodrigues appearing for the university said that the result delay was due to implementation of the onscreen evaluation process for the first time. "Some technical snags and delays did exist in the beginning. Now the university is working on a war footing and a the results of several students are likely to come out before August 31," Rodrigues told the court.
