The bar-restaurant bandh saw several city restaurants closed on Monday. Restaurateurs are protesting against the high increase in taxes levied on all partly and fully air-conditioned restaurants.
"The high taxes are a big nuisance and we want the rates to go down. Although it hasn't really had an effect on the number of customers, we are getting a lot of complaints, which is not good for our restaurant," said manager, China Valley in Prabhadevi.
Restaurants like Yoko Sizzlers at Fort, Global Fusion at Bandra, Gaylords and Indian Summer at Churchgate were closed to show their support to the bandh. Along with this, many malls were closed for the first half of the day and open only in the evening.
