The assistant municipal commissioner of D ward (Malabar Hill) said that the BMC will beautify the Priyadarshani Park bridge, commonly known as PDP bridge, if the local residents forum and the Giants groups it had asked could not work together.

The Napean Sea Road Citizens Forum (NSRCF) was recently upset at not being allowed to beautify the Vikram Sarabai bridge, the real name of the PDP bridge.

"I will ask both to come and give a presentation of their plans. We will ask both to work together. If they cannot, then BMC will give do the beautification on its own," said Vishwas Mote, assistant municipal commissioner of D Ward. Mote had earlier said that public participation and joint work is expected by residents as well as NGO and that it is a democracy.

Mote said that while the residents had been asking, they had not given any formal request. Mote said that even after the residents said that they were upset, only a WhatsApp message had come to him and no formal request.

"In the last 17 years, we could not accomplish only one main thing of Mahanagar gas for residents. Although we have worked tirelessly, if we are not given permission to beautify the bridge, this will be the second thing. We truly wish that does not happen," said Gita Mirchandani, chairperson, NSRCF.

"NSRCF has been working with the MCGM for over three years in getting the bridge repaired and installing signboards. We shall always work towards the betterment of the locality with all stakeholders," said Mukul Mehra, secretary, NSRCF.

RECAP

  • The residents said that they had been working to beautify the bridge for the past three years.

  • They wanted to start the work when they were informed that the BMC has allowed an NGO from Byculla to do the same.

  • What upset the residents the most was that they were not sounded off that BMC was considering or could consider someone else for the project while they showed interest.
