A red corner notice will be issued against a US-based event organiser, for his alleged role in a case related to alleged death threats by a gangster to Bollywood producer Karim Morani and the subsequent firing outside the latter's suburban Juhu residence, the police said in Mumbai on Wednesday.

"We are preparing to issue to a red-corner notice against Bittu Singh, an event organiser. We are co-ordinating with Interpol in this regard. We have sufficient evidence against Singh. Let him defend himself after we catch him," Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said.

The city's top cop warned that nobody would be spared for committing crimes. "Though the culprit is abroad, we will reach and catch him or her," the officer said.

A red-corner notice is an international arrest warrant issued by the France-based Interpol, the world's largest international police organisation, after a request from its member country after a suspect in a case hides in another country. The Mumbai police is touch with security agencies in Delhi that co-ordinate with the Interpol.

Maria said that the crackdown on underworld sympathisers, supporters and informers in the city has been initiated. "We will not tolerate underworld activities. We are carrying out an all out crackdown on men linked with the underworld," he said.

Throwing light on Bittu Singh's role in the offence, another police officer said, "Singh had spoken to Morani seeking contacts to organise global shows of 'SLAM! (Sound, Light, Music, Action) The Tour' to be held to promote Shahrukh Khan's forthcoming movie Happy New Year".

Morani is said to be close to Shahrukh Khan and hence Bittu Singh believed that Morani would help him bag a contract to hold the SLAM event in the USA, the police said.

Since Morani did not heed to Singh requests, the latter allegedly approached a gangster, who threatened the film producer with death, if Singh is not favoured, the police said. Subsequently, on August 25, three unidentified men allegedly linked to a gangster fired bullets targeting Morani in a bid to scare him.

Morani had claimed that three men came on a bike and fired three bullets, though nobody was injured, the police said. After the incident, the city police provided security to all film personalities who received threats during the past two years from the same underworld don.
