The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has sent a circular to Birla College in Kalyan asking the college to recheck the internal marks of Environmental Studies. Although the HSC results are announced and most students have secured admissions in degree colleges, the board has spotted errors in the internal marking system of the college.

The circular that has been sent to the college stated that the internal marks of subject Environmental Studies seems to be way poor then the marks scored by the students in their written exam and hence, the board finds it difficult to digest. Thus, the board asked the college to submit the marks again and also, to scruinise it again to see if there were any errors while submitting the marks to the board.

According to one of the board officials, "There can be instances of human error while physically entering the marks in the computerised system or while copying it. We have asked the college to recheck. Mostly external staff is appointed for marking the students during their internal exams, we need to check if this practice was followed. It is just a check as there was a drastic difference in the internal and written marks of the students."

Around 600 students from the science department will be affected in this case and the college has said it will soon submit a detailed report, along with the marks, to the board. With the prime concern that the students should not face any problems due to the negligence of the college or the external supervisor, the marks are being rechecked.

Although the students have secured admissions, the board wants them to get their due and hence this process has been initiated. The college's principal was unavailable for comment.
