The first sign that Christmas is around is that Christians start putting up Christmas stars, of varying sizes and shapes, at churches and homes.
Cribs are put up in the second week of December, and nowadays, most people prefer to have a ready-made crib rather than making one at home.
Cribs have always been synonymous with Christmas celebrations for Catholics who necessarily make one or buy a ready made to celebrate the day. As not many are willing to sweat it out for making cribs this year, ready-made cribs are in demand.
Santhamma Joseph, a resident, says, "Kids are mostly excited about making cribs, but now they all have grown up and don't have time to make one. So, we prefer to buy ready-made ones which are available in different material like wood and clay."
"The wooden cribs are priced between Rs300 and Rs500, whereas clay models are available for Rs500 and above," says Alex Joes, a supplier who takes orders for ready-made cribs. He adds, "Most people prefer the wooden model rather than the clay as its light to carry and bigger models are made easily whereas we don't have same flexibility with the clay models."
A Rodricks, another crib seller who accepts order, says, "I have received nearly 15 orders till now and expecting more. I have also stocked up pre-fabricated cribs which can be dismantled. As these cribs are easy and light in weight, many are placing orders."
Catherine Morris, a resident, says "Every Christmas we put up crib, but now that we don't have enough time to erect one so we buy ready-made crib. We don't buy the entire set and order the figurines separately. I along with my friends have booked a wooden crib model for Christmas celebration which would be delivered in the next two to three days."
The traditional cribs which are now available readymade are also available online. Along with different nativity statues of Mother Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus the cribs are also sold online in different varieties.
As cribs have got a makeover, people are also booking ready-made cribs from sites like quikr.com ebay and others which are available in different price range.
