Rash driver kept halting to seek directions: Passengers

The driver of the ill-fated luxury bus was driving rashly and was not too familiar with the route to be taken, going by what passengers on the bus have told the police.
A few passengers told dna that one of the drivers, Shaukat Mulani, 47, halted the bus intermittently en route, especially at junctions, to ask for directions while the another driver was sleeping inside and was saved in time by the passengers.
Passenger Shankarlal Purohit said that the driver was rash. “Nothing seemed unusual until we crossed Ghodbunder road. That’s when he drove very rashly and we experienced sudden jerks,” said Purohit, who is from Rajasthan.
The police said that the driver of the parked container too had ignored basic rules as the blinkers of the container were not flashing. “Had he been a disciplined driver, he would not have parked the vehicle in the left lane without using blinkers to alert drivers of other vehicles,” said a senior police officer.
The driver of the container Shafique Siddiqui, who is absconding, has been booked.
The container had broken down and the driver had gone to hire a crane, said the police officer.
