There are no permanent enemies in politics. The phrase stands true in this case as witnessed by people of Sangli on Sunday when Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana leader, Lok Sabha MP Raju Shetti and NCP leader Jayant Patil joined hands. Shetti has been known for critiquing NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, which is why eyebrows were raised when Patil extended an invitation to Shetti to join hands with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

The trio had come together at the launch of Adityaraj India Funds at Balgandharva auditorium in Miraj, Sangli district. Interestingly, it was Jayant Patil who spoke before MP Raju Shetti and extended him an invitation to join hands with his party.

Patil criticised the BJP-led governments at Centre and the state by saying that Shetti had joined hands with BJP and has repented for the same. Of course, Patil said, "even though Shetti has decided to withdraw support from the government, he has not yet joined hands with us but we are not averse to joining hands with him if he is convinced that these are not Acche Din."

Shetti, too, criticised the government for its anti-farmer policies and said that he has repented for supporting BJP. Shetti said it was Prime MInister Narendra Modi who had promised to provide price to farmers' produce, which would match 1.5 times that of input cost. He reminded that despite being in power for four years, the promise is yet to be fulfilled and it had resulted in a sigh of despair among the farmer community. Shetti said that Jayant Patil has extended an invitation but he cannot take the decision alone. He said, "I will go back to farmers and members of my party to seek their opinion on this proposal. If farmers are okay with it, only then can I consider the proposal."

The political situation had brought them together but Shetti is cautious for obvious reasons. One of the leaders of farmers movement, on the condition of anonymity said, "Shetti knows that atmosphere is against BJP but people still are not happy with NCP and that is why he would not take any decision in haste.'
