Residents of Thane and Navi Mumbai had some temporary relief as Latur Express used to halt at Thane station for a minute. In order to turn this relief into a permanent one, Member of Parliament (MP) Rajan Vichare has written to the railways to make the train halt at Thane too.

At present, Latur Express is the only train that goes to Marathwada and on pilot basis beginning from February upto March, this train halts at Thane station for a minute. "Residents of Thane and Navi Mumbai who are natives of Latur have only this train to go to Marathwada. So, please make Thane one of the halts permanently," wrote Vichare to S K Sood, manager, Central Railways (CR).

He also requested to show Thane station as one of the halt during online bookings. This will ease the anxiety of the passengers who are unaware that the station halts at the station.

Vichare also wrote, in his letter, that the train which leaves from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) in the evening and returns back in the morning, passes via Thane. Hence, passengers of local trains should be allowed to travel via Latur Express as this will reduce the congestion on local Central railway network during peak hours.

He also requested that Punjab Mail should also get a halt at Thane station. "CR replied that they will take a decision on the permanent halt of the train after the month of March," said Vichare.
