From the time pre-monsoon showers made their presence felt, there have been a couple of disruptions due to rains. Tuesday was the second consecutive day of commuters being inconvenienced, this time due to the rains.

As the monsoon has finally arrived in Mumbai, the railways has chalked out the locations that are prone to water-logging.

On the Western Railway (WR) line, there are over half a dozen such sites, like Bandra-Mahim, Dadar, Elphinstone, Matunga, Nallasopara, Grant Road, etc. "Around 80 diesel pumps have been positioned at such locations that are prone to water-logging," said Ravinder Bhakar, chief PRO, WR.

On Tuesday, Central Railway services were affected the entire day due to heavy rainfall and eventual water-logging along the line. Disruption of fast line services took a toll on punctuality, resulting in over 200 services being cancelled. There were two reasons — the first was problem with the engine of Mandovi Express, whereas the second was a landslide-prone spot at Parsik Tunnel threatening to bring the services to a standstill.

"CR has identified 17 vulnerable locations on the main as well as harbour lines for which 39 pumps have been put up," said an official.
