The Railway Land Development Authority (RLDA) has set the ball rolling for developing a prime plot of land at Vasai Road. The authority has announced Project Information Memorandum (PIS) for a multifunctional complex (MFC) at Vasai Road railway station.

According to the PIS, at least 1,458 sq mtr carpet area (1,800 sq mtr built-up area) would be made available for lease. Out of this approximately, 15,688 sq ft can be used for development purpose. Interested parties can submit their bid on or before November, 12.

The Western Railway (WR) has a massive land bank which is lying unused for several years. There is a mega plan for developing an MFC on the prime land which is lying unused for several years at Vasai Road. The land parcel for MFC would be leased out for forty-five years to the interested party.

Sharat Chandrayan, CPRO, WR said: "There is a parcel of land at Vasai Road which is of non-operational use for the railways. The MFC would have almost all the facilities like multi-cuisine restaurants, shopping complex, book stall, ATM, chemist and medical centres etc. with adequate parking space."

"Being close to the railway station there would be a good footfall and it'd be an added facility for public under one roof. Once the MFC comes up, there would be additional revenue generation for the railways without burdening the public," he added.

Dr Dadarao Datkar, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Vasai, said, "The new complex at Vasai Road station, once it comes up, would be a boon for local residents. Vasai, being a prime area and close to Mumbai, has seen positive growth in the past couple of years and still growing. This would be an added advantage for public. The passengers who alight after their office, would buy stuff from here instead of going to from other places."
