Following the Harayana riots by supporters of Ram Rahim Singh, the railways here have completely and partially cancelled trains to the north. Security staff have been deployed inside trains which will be passing Punjab and Haryana.
Both the Central and Western Railways have implemented this move. WR on Saturday cancelled 19023 Mumbai Central – Firozpur Janta Express, 12925 Bandra Terminus – Amritsar Paschim Express and 19027 Bandra Terminus – Jammu Tawi Vivek Express that starts from Mumbai.
These are popular trains that usually run full most times of the year. These trains run in the morning and afternoon. Sources said that the last minute cancellation led to altercations between passengers and authorities at Bandra Terminus and Mumbai Central.
The WR also partially cancelled 12903 Mumbai Central-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail that ran till Kota (train left on August 25) and was cancelled between Kota and Amritsar. Even the 12903 Mumbai Central-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail (left on August 26) will run only up to Mathura.
On the Central Railway, two trains starting from Mumbai namely 11057 CSMT-Amritsar and 12137 CSMT-Firozpur Punjab Mail were terminated at Agra Cantonment and will come back to Mumbai. The CR cancelled trains towards Punjab and Haryana starting from Pune and Nagpur as well; while WR has cancelled trains departing from Ahmedabad and Indore to Jammu Tawi railway station as well.
In the last two days, supporters of Dera Sacha Sauda damaged and burnt down train coaches in Delhi. Even the railway stations of Malout and Balluana were damaged as well as seats and food stalls were torched. The railway officials claim that several trains across the country are bound to be cancelled and will continue to be cancelled for two days until the situation comes back to normal.
