There was talks of a rollback of the massive fare hike especially since the hike on Mumbai's commuting crowd was far more than the 14.2% for other commuters nationwide. According to top-level railway officials, the railway ministry officials were busy trying to come to a formula by which the season pass fares for Mumbai could be rationalised.

Officials also said that since the calculations are complex, the railway ministry would most probably defer the hike especially on suburban tickets till June 28. These however were not being confirmed officially as meetings were still on.
