Responding to the strong criticism of the state government in Shiv Sena mouthpiece 'Saamna', Congress state unit chief Manikrao Thakare said the Sena had no right to criticize the government since it was also part of it. He said that the Sena should first quit if it is not happy and then react. He added that the party was playing politics with farmers' suicides.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said that the government was not going to react to a newspaper editorial, while replying to questions after his press conference at Sahyadri Guest House. The Samana editorial had criticized the government for not doing anything to provide relief to farmers who are in distress. It asked that when the government had declared Chandrapur as a dry district, why could it not ban farmer's suicides in the state?

When reporters tried to raise the issue and asked for his reaction to Sena's consistent barbs, Fadnavis said, "If some leader makes a public statement I would not term is as an attack. There is no attack on each other. If at all there is a statement by someone, it is not that someone is throwing an atom bomb at us.'
