The presence of mind of a ticket checker at Kalyan station saved a man's life. The man was trying to board a mail train while it was in motion and lost balance. He was partially hanging out and could have fallen into the platform gap. CCTV footage captured at Platform no 4 shows how the ticket checker saved the man's life following which the Central Railway (CR) has said it will award the ticket checker for his bravery.

Sandeep Sonkar, the passenger, was trying to board the train named Pushpak Express to Lucknow when the incident occurred.

Shashikant Chavan, the ticket checker, told DNA, "Everything happened within seconds. Sonkar was apparently going to board the general coach but he could not as it was full. Later, he was trying to board the reserved coach when the train was in motion and lost balance."

Sunil Udasi, Public Relations Officer, CR, said, "Chavan, CTI saved a passenger who tried to board the moving Pushpak Express train at Kalyan. The presence of mind shown by Chavan in pulling him to safety makes us proud to have such railwaymen. He will be suitably awarded."

CR confirmed that the passenger was safe and had not sustained any injuries. Udasi added, "There is no injury to anyone."

Sonkar, the passenger, is said to have been from Gujarat and was on his way to Lucknow. On an average, around 10 people die daily due to overcrowding in the city's suburban railway network.
