As the state education department gears up to put an end to integrated coaching in the state, private coaching institutes would soon aid the government in the process.

During a meeting between state education minister Vinod Tawde and prominent members of the Class Owners Associations, the class owners said that they would help the government put an end to the practice of integrated coaching in the state by providing data on colleges that tie up wth coaching classes.

Tawde had convened the meeting to discuss the upcoming Maharashtra Private Coaching Regulation Bill,2018 whose draft had met with opposition from class owners and later revised. Class owners said that while regulating coaching institutes is not a bad idea, the government should take strict action against big coaching classes which run within colleges.

"There are many coaching classes that have tied up with some of the prominent colleges in the city. In such colleges, there are common teachers for college and class. Huge sums of money is charged from parents for such a nexus" said Ladika Ruke, joint secretary of the Maharashtra Class Owners Association(MCOA). In July 2016, MCOA had moved the Bombay High Court against the Integrated coaching model. In the writ petition, the association had named colleges that have a tie up with a coaching institute and had asked the government to take action against such colleges. In the meeting, class owners were also asked to give their suggestions and objections to the proposed draft bill and the government promised that a final draft would be ready within the next 15 days.

Narendra Bambwani, Former President of MCOA said that the association has already submitted a list of over 50 such tie-ups in the city itself. " When we filed the petition, we had sent the details of over 50 colleges that have some or the other form of tie up with coaching classes. The fact that the government has still not acted on them hints towards the nexus between the two" he added.
