The puppies were rescued by animal activists and Kashimira police booked two members under the Bombay Police Act.

The society members wanted them to die out there in the cold out of hunger, the activists alleged.

Highness Park in Nityanand Nagar saw a huge crowd on Wednesday evening as activists questioned the members about their alleged act. The activists soon found the puppies lying near a drain and brought them back into the society, not before a backlash from the members.

"As soon as I was informed by a resident I rushed to the spot and found that the pups were missing. I started searching for them and found them lying near a drain 15 minutes from the society, and complained to the police," said Salim Charania, president of Peace For Animal Welfare Association.

"When we took back the pups the members complained that their cries irritated them. They even said they wanted them to die from hunger and cold," said Charania.

PSI Jagjeet Walvi said, "We have imposed section 119 (cruelty to animals) of the Bombay Police Act against Elizabeth Alfred and contractual employee of MBMC Pradeep, for dumping the pups and are investigating further."
