Pune International Marathon route closed to traffic today

Runners from 22 countries will participate in the 26th Pune International Marathon to be hosted by the Pune International Marathon Trust (PIMT) on Sunday.

Runners from 22 countries will participate in the 26th Pune International Marathon to be hosted by the Pune International Marathon Trust (PIMT) on Sunday.

Over 350 athletes from across India will participate in the marathon, and as many as 30,000 citizens are expected to be present at the event.

The 42.095-km race will be flagged off at Alka Talkies Chowk at 7 am, and will pass through the busy Laxmi Road, Vijay Talkies Nagarkar Talim, Sonya Maruti Chowk, Modern Bakery and Nana Peth areas.

It will also pass Seven Loves Chowk and reach Golibar Maidan and cover Mahatma Gandhi Road, Aurora Towers.

The track will also cover the police commissioner’s office, Blue Nile Hotel, Wadia College and Hotel Blue Diamond, where the first 10-km race will end.

The next leg of the race will move via German Bakery, Pune Golf Course, Holkar Bridge and reach Kirloskar Oil Engine Company where the half marathon will end.

The route for the remaining part of the race is as follows: Pune-Mumbai highway-Bremen Chowk-University of Pune Chowk-Symbiosis College-Nal Stop Chowk-Paud Road-Nana Dharmadhikari Road-Karvenagar-Mhatre Bridge-SP College-Sanas Statue. The race will finish at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Vishwas Pandhare, said, “The road will be closed and the citizens are welcome to cheer the participants from the pavement.”
