A Pune-based businessman was robbed at gunpoint in Worli while he was waiting to hire a taxi to go to Dadar’s Asiad bus stand on Thursday.
Gautam Sharma, 25, who supplies frozen foods, was robbed of a 70g gold chain, a wrist watch and a wallet, collectively valued at Rs2.25 lakh.
Around 4.30am, Sharma was outside Poonam Chambers on AB Road busy talking on his mobile phone when three men on a bike stopped in front of him. Before he knew what was happening, one of them snatched his chain and fled towards Worli. Sharma screamed for help and started running after them.
When the three saw him chase them, they stopped the bike.
When Sharma tried to nab them, one of them got down from the bike and whipped out a revolver and threatened the victim with dire consequences.
“The other slapped Sharma, snatched his wrist watch and wallet and sped off,” said Jayendra Sawant, assistant inspector of Worli police station.
Sharma then lodged a complaint. He was in the city for business and was going to Dadar to board a bus back to Pune.
“We have registered a case under sections 394 (robbery) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC and sections of the Arms Act. We will prepare sketches of the accused,” said Sawant.
