Psychologist 'posts' suicide message on Facebook, sends cops into tizzy

A suicidal Facebook 'post' by a clinical psychologist sent city police in a tizzy after famed singer Akriti Kakar reported the matter to police from her Twitter handle on Thursday at around 2 am. After Vakola police reached the doctor's residence, she revealed the Facebook account was hacked by an unidentified person who had posted the message.

The message was posted from Dr Swapna Patker's Facebook account at around 12.30 am. It read, "Due to tremendous torture and mental harassment, I'm committing suicide. I can't take it anymore. Goodbye to all." Akriti Kakar was awake and was browsing her newsfeed when she came across the post. She shared the post and sought help from police.

Dr Swapna Patker is a resident of Vakola and is a clinical psychologist and a motivational speaker.

"I was shocked to find the Facebook post. With the increasing trend of people committing suicide after posting it on Facebook, I panicked and shared it on my Facebook account. I also tweeted to Mumbai police and reported the matter to Vakola police," said Akriti Kakar.

"The post went viral in no time and many tried to reach the doctor's family membersto rescue her," said Kakar.

Vakola police said, "Police control room informed us about the incident. We immediately rushed to Patker's residence. Though she was not opening the door at first, we found her safe soon after."

Dr Patker later posted a message on Facebook clarifying that she did not post the suicide note and that her account was hacked.

When contacted, she said, "An unidentified hacker posted a suicide message on my Facebook timeline which led to panic among people who then informed Vakola police. The police officers reached at around 2 am only to find me sleeping."

However, she added, "The person who posted the message is defaming my career and I will be taking a legal action through cyber crime cell."

Mumbai police later thanked singer Akriti Kakar for bring the incident to their notice.
