With the Maharashtra State Chemist and Druggist Association (MSCDA) deciding to go ahead with their three-day strike across the state from December 16, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has asked the Mumbai police to provide security to those chemists who will keep their shops open.
Sanjay Patil, joint commissioner (drugs), FDA, said, “We have asked the Mumbai police to give protection to chemists who have decided to keep their shop open against their association’s decision.”
According to Patil, a total of 20,000 chemists affiliated with the Union of Registered Pharmacists, Akhil Bhartiya Pharmacists Welfare Association, Pharmaceutical Teachers Association, Hospital Pharmacists Association are not participating in the strike. “All chemists shops inside and outside hospitals will be open,” said Patil.
