A 21-year-old man who had unzipped his pants to masturbate at a lecturer outside a college in Vile Parle was arrested after she clicked his photograph while he was about to launch into the deed and tweeted it at the Mumbai police.
The accused, Ganesh Devendra, was nabbed by the Juhu police a few hours after the 39-year-old lecturer shared the photo with the cops.
The complainant told DNA that on Saturday afternoon, while she was about to exit the college, she saw the accused standing and ogling her before undoing his fly. Before she could confront him, he got scared and scuttled away.
"It's very supportive of the police to swing into action. A female police officer contacted me and recorded my statement. The college has many girls from outside the state and they do not report such incidents. I want people to speak up, not get scared as I would as a child," she said.
The cops said Devendra was standing behind an auto and watching porn when he saw her stepping out of the college's back gate.
He tried to pull out his penis while gawking at her, but she saw him. Her tweet @MumbaiPolice read: 'This man was seen masturbating near Mithibai College just now. The minute I clicked his picture he ran away.'
"We use the backside college gate oftentimes. I also always see the autos parked there and liquor bottles all around. I want the cops to look into it because a lot of college girls use the gate daily," the lecturer said.
Devendra has been arrested under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code late on Saturday evening and produced before a Bandra court on Sunday which sent him to judicial custody.

- July 29, 2019 – A rickshaw driver was masturbating while looking at woman passenger in the rearview mirror at Kandivli.
- June 4, 2019 – A 60-year-old man who allegedly sexually harassed a 4-year-old boy near Chapel Road in Bandra. The boy was playing in the locality, the accused hugged him after masturbating in front of the kid.
- October 21, 2017 – The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 30-year-old labourer for allegedly masturbating in front of a female commuter in a Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) to Belapur local train.
- July 12, 2017 – The Government Railway Police arrested a man who had allegedly masturbated while staring at a woman in the wee hours of June 29 in Tapovan Express. Identified as Ashok Pradhan, the 20-year-old hails from Bhubaneswar but stays in Mahul in Chembur.
