Film producer Gaurang Doshi, who has been locked in a divorce battle with his estranged wife for the past eight years, deposited the first instalment of the total alimony he has promised her with the Bombay high court registry.

Doshi deposited Rs65,000 of the total Rs2.5 crore and is likely to deposit the rest Rs2,49,35,000 by January 15. In return, his wife Madhuri will withdraw all the cases she has filed against him and agree to the divorce petition.

The couple recently filed consent terms before the HC where it was agreed that Doshi will pay Rs2.5 crore one-time alimony. The consent terms were filed during the hearing of a petition filed by her, seeking enhancement in the monthly maintenance granted to her by a family court. In 2006, she had approached the family court, seeking monthly maintenance of Rs2 lakh for herself and Rs75,000 for her daughter. After Doshi deposits the money, Madhuri will withdraw her petition filed against her ‘matrimonial house’ on Peddar Road. It seeks restriction on him from selling/dealing with the house in any manner, and there is an order in her favour as of now.
