Actor Priyanka Chopra, industrialist Mukesh Ambani, spiritual leader Dada JP Vaswani and businesswoman Rajashree Birla were among the many high profile personalities felicitated with Priyadarshni Academy's Global Awards on Friday. Mukesh Ambani was represented by his wife, Nita Ambani, at the function.

"I feel privileged to receive this award and feel humbled by the presence of all the dignitaries on this dais. They have achieved that balance between being successful and giving back to the society. And that is something that I have always sought to attain myself," said Priyanka Chopra on receiving the Smita Patil Memorial Award for the best actor.

On the list of international award winners were Dr Jeffrey Sachs, director, The Earth Institute from the USA, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed KCMG, founder and chairperson of Brac of Bangladesh, and Julia Morley, chairperson and CEO of Miss World Organisation from Britain.

On the Republic Day this year, the Academy had felicitated Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.

"The Priyadarshni Academy has created history, history in terms of doing social and cultural work, bringing great artists to the fore, music, dance, scholarships, education and all this in 30 years," said chairperson of the academy, Niranjan Hiranandani.

On the absence of chief guest Nitin Gadkari and the delay in Piyush Goyal turning up, Hiranandani quipped, "Today we miss two of our wonderful giants, Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal, both stuck at Delhi airport. And I thought ministers were exempt from all this, but clearly times have changed."

"When we started these awards, I used to hear about Oscars, Templeton and the Nobel Prize. And I wondered why India, such a big country, didn't have an award of its own, and then people laughed at me. It was our faith in god that helped us reach the top within 14 years, and institute international awards. And today here we stand," said founder and chairman emeritus Nanik Rupani.

The presence of Miss World Megan Young and Miss India Koyal Rana gave the ceremony an extra dose of glitz and glamour.
