More then 3,000 schools of Federation of Schools Association of Maharashtra have decided to refuse the Right to Education ( RTE) 25% quota admission this year if the state government fails to pay pending reimbursements of the RTE quota admissions.

The federation said the state government is unable to provide any clarity on how many students till date are admitted under the RTE quota, and how much reimbursement is pending. Hence, many schools across the state have refused to register for RTE admissions on their website. Schools are complying only when they are faced with the prospect of derecognition from the state education department.

The RTE 25% quota admissions started in schools from 2012-2013. Rajendra Singh, Secretary of Independent English School Association of Maharashtra, said, “If we don’t pay our light bills, then our electricity is cut by the electricity department, when we dont pay our taxes, we are pulled up for that. Then why should the government not be pulled up for pending reimbursements of schools for giving admissions to students under RTE quota? We are not able to provide some facilities in the absence of reimbursement. ”

According to the state education department, the total number of students who took admission under RTE quota are 2,60,982 in 23,619 schools from 2012 till 2017. The funds required for RTE reimbursement is Rs 302.48 crore whereas disbursed amount is Rs 154.20 crore till 2017.
