Making a call to the police control room under the influence of alcohol and abusing a policewomen on duty proved costly for a 39-year-old, who is general manager of a private company. The accused was arrested on Friday and booked for outraging the modesty of a women.

According to the police, the accused has been identified as Pravin Gupta, 39.

On Thursday night, he had allegedly called up on the police helpline number to complain about an autorickshaw driver, who had allegedly overcharged him, which Gupta refused to pay. After getting into an argument with the driver, he had called up the control room to teach him a lesson. But when a woman constable answered, Gupta, who was under the influence of alcohol, abused her. A case was then registered with the Azad Maidan police against an unidentified caller.

The police team investigating the case traced Gupta's location through his cell phone number and placed him under arrest. He was booked under section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code on Thursday. The Azad Maidan police produced him in court on the same day. Gupta was released on bail.
