The Mumbai Fire Brigade on Monday said it will take a minimum of three days to prepare a primary investigation report on the Gokul Niwas fire in Kalbadevi. Senior fire officers had said the investigation process may take longer as all evidence has been destroyed with the collapse of the building.
Two senior fire officers from the department carried out a preliminary investigation at the site on Monday. Prima facie, the fire was caused due to a short circuit in a meter box of the building; LPG cylinders, clothes, and mobile phone batteries kept in the building fanned it.
Deputy chief fire officer P Rahangdale said, "We don't have any standing structure, so we will have to depend on eyewitnesses for investigation. It will be difficult to establish the exact cause of the fire."
