It seems there is no end to the troubles of suspended Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sunil Paraskar who was accused of allegedly raping a model. A preliminary inquiry conducted by a joint commissioner of police rank officer has indicted Paraskar of professional misconduct.

When was the inquiry ordered?
While the rape charges against Paraskar is being investigated by the Mumbai Crime Branch, the state home department in August had suspended Paraskar and had departmental inquiry against him. The inquiry was conducted by Joint Commissioner of Police (Administration) Vivek Phansalkar. A preliminary inquiry report has been submitted to the Mumbai police commissioner Rakesh Maria.

What does the PE report say?
The report allegedly states that Paraskar's interaction with the alleged victim were more than that could take place between a police officer and a member of the public. The reports also state that Paraskar took expensive gifts from the woman and also travelled in his official car along with her outside his jurisdiction (Navi Mumbai). It was also mentioned in the report that Paraskar had met the alleged victim apart from work and non working hours and also had sent her number of text messages and emails which are gross violation of service rules.

What was Maria's reponse?
"The PE report found professional lapses on the part of Paraskar. The report has been submitted to the Maharashtra Director General of Police Sanjeev Dayal", said Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria.
An IAS officer is currently conducting a departmental proceedings against Parakar based on the internal probe. The IAS officer will prepare a chargesheet and a final report will be submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Additional section added in alleged rape case
Meanwhile, an additional charge was added in a case registered by Chitra Salunkhe, former counsel of the model in the Paraskar case. Salunkhe had stated that a man named Deepak Gupta had approached her on behalf of Paraskar and threatened her to take back the case. "We have applied the section as during investigation we have figured out that Gupta was in touch with suspended inspector from narcotics Anil Jadhav, and Jadhav was in touch with Paraskar", said Senior Inspector Dnyanesh Deode of Chembur police station.
