Thousands of commuters on the Transharbour line between Thane and Vashi were left stranded after a malfunction in the Overhead Equipment (OHE) between Thane and Airoli stations shut down both lines.

The problem started around 6:12 pm. A repair wagon, called Tower wagon in railway parlance, was dispatched from Dombivli and work began on repairing the OHE, said Central Railway officials.

"Services are being run between Koparkhirane and Vashi. There will be a lot of cancellations by the time the OHE is repaired," said a CR official when the stations were shut down.

The power problems of the OHE were rectified by 8:51pm. CR officials said several trains were cancelled as both lines were shut between 6:12 pm and 8:51 pm.
