Thanks to Ganpati bappa and upcoming Thane mayor’s Varsha marathon, Thanekars can hope for pothole-free roads at last.

The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has failed to give the city pothole-free roads this monsoon. But the upcoming Thane Mayor Varsha marathon and Ganeshotsav have managed to make the civic body pull up its socks. To ensure that there are no accidents or inconvenience to participants during the Varsha marathon on September 2, Thane mayor Meenakshi Shinde instructed TMC to repair potholes on urgent basis.

As such the TMC commissioner Sanjeev Jaiswal inspected pothole repair work on Monday and directed civic officials to undertake repair work on war footing.  There are over 2374 pothole spots with an area of 6608 square meters in Kopri, Naupada, Uthalsar, Majiwada-Manpada, Mumbra, Kalwa, Vartaknagar, Lokmanyanagar and Wagle estate. “Of these 2122 potholes have been filled and the remaining will be done soon,” says Sandip Malvi, public relations officer, TMC.

Moreover, to avoid traffic jams across the city due to repairs, the commissioner ordered the work to be carried out at night.
