The state BJP seems unfazed by the by-poll results in Gujarat, UP and Rajasthan. It's all set to start fresh rounds of negotiations with Shiv Sena. Party president Amit Shah will be in Mumbai on Wednesday, and will meet top leaders and review the situation.

"Shah will review the region-wise situation. Regional in-charges will brief him on all the 288 seats and party's micro-level preparations for the polls. He will also discuss the seat-sharing issue. Though Sena would expect us to be on the back-foot, we are confident about our strength in the state," said a senior party leader.

On Wednesday evening, Amit Shah will attend Giants International programme organised by Nana Chudasama and Shaina NC. On Thursday he will proceed to Chaundi to attend the concluding phase of Pankaja Munde's Sangharsh Yatra. Shah will also seek blessings of Goddess Mahalaxmi at Kolhapur, which is also his wife's home town.

On Tuesday morning, BJP leaders had rushed to Delhi and met Nitin Gadkari at his residence. Though both Devendra Fadnavis and Vinod Tawde were tight-lipped about the meeting, sources in the party said only after a meeting with Shah would they be able to comment on the seat-sharing issue.

The national leadership is however against snapping ties with Sena under any circumstances. "Both need the alliance. We, however, expect Sena to soften its stand and ensure that healthy relations prevail. We are waiting for the signal from Shah," sources added.

By-poll results would not weaken BJP's stand on the seat-sharing issue, said a party leader. "Assembly elections, especially by-polls, are contested on issue at the micro-level. One cannot generalize the situation in an entire state based on the results of a few seats. Elections in Maharashtra is altogether different," said Madhav Bhandar, Maharashtra BJP spokesperson.

Bhandari added that one must also see the party making inroads in West Bengal where it has never won an election. Party will learn from this result, and the experience would come in handy during state elections, he said.
