A day after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray severely criticised the Shiv Sena for holding the union ministry portfolio even after the breakup of the alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Monday that Anant Geete, Union Minister of Heavy Industries will resign from his post.

Speaking to the media, Uddhav Thackeray said, "Once Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his America visit, Union Minister of Heavy Industries Anant Geete will handover his resignation to Prime Minister."

Shiv Sena's move has come a day after Raj Thackeray had lambasted Uddhav Thackeray saying, "If Balasaheb Thackeray was alive today, he would have ditched BJP. Even after being insulted, Shiv Sena is still holding the union ministry portfolio. Sena is still in alliance with BJP in Mumbai Municipal Corporation as it is an income source."

A few days ago, failing to bury their differences over seat-sharing, the Shiv Sena and the BJP, who made up one of the oldest political alliances in the country, parted ways on August 25 to contest the Maharashtra assembly polls on their own.

It was expected that post-polls, the differences between the Sena and the BJP may end. However, Sena's move to leave union ministry has put an end to such speculations.

Meanwhile, when asked whether if the Sena will also break the alliance with the BJP in BMC, Uddhav Thackeray refused to comment on it.

Shiv Sena leader Anant Geete was sworn in as the Union Minister in BJP led NDA government in May this year.
