Police probe fake govt papers' case

After the Nashik police recently busted a gang that was instrumental in ferrying cache of arms from Uttar Pradesh, the Mumbai Crime Branch is now probing a case wherein the said gang was being supplied bogus government rubber stamps and government documents, for illegal purposes.

According to the police sources, on December 15, a police team from Chandwad Police Station in Nashik had visited RAK Marg police station in Sewree and informed duty officer, sub-inspector Satishkumar Raut that they wanted assistance of RAK Marg police in carrying out a house search at the Sewree residence of Badyu Jaman alias Suka Akbar Baadshah Pasha, an arrested accused in an arms cache case registered by them.

Both police teams went to Pasha's residence and found a woman walking out of Pasha's residence with a plastic bag in her hand. "We found the woman to be moving suspiciously after which we questioned her. She said she is Pasha's sister and that she was on her way to throw garbage. On searching the bag and residence we found bogus government rubber stamps, election card, few other government documents and 279 blank debit cards," police said.of Midtown building.

"A case was then registered at RAK Marg police station. Our probe revealed that Mumbra resident Karim Maqbool Sayyed and few others were instrumental in preparing these bogus documents after which he was arrested on December 19. From Karim's residence we seized bogus documents. Karim is in Crime Branch's custody till December 29 as the probe is on," said a police officer.
