Police identifies man who leaked Jio data

According to the police, Chhimpa received the data from his friend through WhatsApp.

On Tuesday, twenty four-year-old Rajasthan-based Imran Chhimpa was arrested by the Navi Mumbai police on Tuesday for allegedly posting customer data of telecom firm Reliance Jio on a website. According to the police, Chhimpa received the data from his friend through WhatsApp. His friend has now been identified by the police for leaking the data. Chhimpa used the data to create a website called 'Magicapk.com'.

It was revealed during the investigation that Chhimpa did not share the data and he received it in text file format from his friend, who is reportedly a retailer. Chhimpa designed program, uploaded it on the website to create a search engine of mobile numbers. "We have identified the person who shared the data with Chhimpa and have traced him. We will verify his role and take necessary action," said a senior police officer.
