A gold jewellery manufacturing unit was housed on the fourth floor of the Gokul Niwas building. The police suspect that the gold worth crores of rupees was inside the unit when the fire broke out. The entire debris is being sent to an open space adjacent to Mumbadevi temple and is being guarded by the police so that no incident of theft can take place.
"In the first place, we were shocked to know that the building housed a gold jewellery manufacturing unit, as such units are normally found in Bhuleshwar. Since the unit had at least two kg of gold and jewellery inside worth crore of rupees, we decided to collect the debris at one place which is near the spot and then do a panchanama," said an officer from LT Marg police station.

As per the locals, the open space was previously a school that was shut down and the school building was pulled down. There are plans to construct a new building on the open space.
The collected debris is being guarded by State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) men and staff of LT Marg police station. "It is important for us to guard the debris as it may have gold and other valuables of the residents. In order to ensure that nothing is stolen, the debris is kept under police protection. After we segregate the valuables from the debris, these would be given to the owners after following due procedures," the officer said.
According to the police, the clearing of debris from the Old Hanuman Gully will take at least one more day.
