The officer added that they will also monitor sensitive areas in the city as there have been several rumours concerning Thackeray’s health.

The tight security cover outside the Thackeray residence in Bandra (East) will continue till Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray’s condition stabilises. On Thursday night, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray announced that his father has started responding to treatment.

“Till the time Thackeray’s health improves, we expect a huge crowd outside Matoshree every day. To ensure that there is no law and order situation, the security in the area will continue until further notice,” said a senior police officer.

The officer added that they will also monitor sensitive areas in the city as there have been several rumours concerning Thackeray’s health.

Along with the 10,000-odd policemen from various police stations in the city, who have been posted outside Matoshree, the leaves of all officers and constabulary have been cancelled.

Three additional companies of the Rapid Action Force, 5,000 personnel from the Local Arms Division, 2,000 policemen from outside the city and additional forces of the State Reserve Police Force have been deployed at various spots across the city.

Hotel feeds cops for free
Thousands of policemen who have been posted at Kalanagar for the last three days are thankful to the owners of the nearby restaurant Maratha Darbar for providing them with free food and water.

“We worship Bal Thackeray and these policemen are here to maintain peace at Matoshree. They deserve it. We have already served 2,000 plates and will continue to feed the cops,” said Sharad Shelar, the hotel’s co-owner.

All policemen, irrespective of their ranks, are being served dal khichdi every day. “We are served hot food every day, what else can we ask for in between such a tight schedule?” said a policeman.
And, if a policeman cannot reach the hotel to grab a bite, the owners pack the food, which is then delivered to them in a police van.

“We are not even selling a bottle of water to regular
patrons. Our services are exclusively for the  policemen until this crisis ends,” added Shelar.
