In view of the safety and comfort of one lakh commuters, who use the Andheri Metro station every day, the authorities have started widening platform number 1 at Andheri Metro station.

The authorities are installing steel on the platform to create more space for commuters. The Andheri Metro station has maximum footfalls and ridership. During peak hours, there are serpentine queues on the concourse, skywalk and bridge of Andheri railway station.

In 2017, Reliance Infrastructure led Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) that operates Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro-1 corridor had written to Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). MMOPL had proposed a Rs 9 crore plan for installing platform screen doors (PSD)'s along with installation of steel platforms at Andheri Metro station. The PSDs help to manage crowds and prevent suicides.

When contacted, MMOPL refused to comment. Nishit Modi, a Metro commuter, who travels between Ghatkopar and Andheri said, "It is not only during peak hours, the problem at Andheri Metro station is also during non-peak hours. There are times when the platform gets full and people are stopped at the concourse to avoid overcrowding. The widening of the platform at Andheri Metro station will be very helpful manage the crowds."

The Metro-1's daily weekday ridership has gone to nearly 4 lakh passengers. It has become challenging when it comes to crowd management on the platform of city's only 12-km-long Metro corridor. Its operations started in June 2014. , and from daily carrying 2.50 lakh passengers daily, Metro-1 today carries nearly 4 lakh passengers on daily basis.
