Minister for rural development Pankaja Munde informed media persons that the entire program under scheme for village roads would have Rs 6,000 crore with 20 per cent for new roads. She informed that in tribal areas, the scheme would aim at building roads for small hamlets with a population of 100. "The department has sought innovative ideas from people with respect to building roads and all options would be explored. Plastic waste would be utilized to build rural roads," said Munde.
She added: "At present there are 1.35L km existing rural roads network. In the next seven years, the government would build at least 90 to 95 Km roads in every taluka. There is a poor road network in Marathwada and Amravati division and they would be benefited the most from this scheme."
Munde informed that the state government would also provide employment for 150 days instead of 100 days in a year under the employment guarantee scheme and it would be made applicable for entire state instead of only drought hit areas.
Munde informed that the state government would convert 4,000 villages in the state in to smart villages. "As part of stage one of the scheme, 351 villages would be identified to convert in to smart villages. The selection of villages would be based on competition and the selected ones would receive incentives. 34 best villages would be selected for raising their allocation up to Rs1 crore and these villages would have to prove by managing their own resources and amenities including health, sanitation, education, energy, among others," she concluded.
