Maharashtra Plastic Manufacturing Association along with other Plastic Associations will be protesting at Azad Maidan on February 23 against the ban on plastic in the state.
The state government has announced a ban on sales of plastic bags, packaging materials as well as on the production of such materials. According to them, a ban is likely to impact millions of people connected with the industry.
Speaking about the protest and ban on plastic, Ravi Jashnani, President of Maharashtra Plastic Manufacturing Association said, “We have been trying to reach out to the government but we haven’t received any reply from them. For last several months, we have tried to bring the drawbacks of such a blanket ban on plastic usage. Hence we are organizing the protest.”
According to the association, 20 million tons of plastic is being used in day to day life with over 50,000 units engaged in this field and over four million people depending on the plastic industry. More than 2,000 units are engaged in re-processing of plastic material. The association feels that rather than a blanket ban, the government should focus more on recycling solutions.
