Fashion Street is one of the oldest shopping markets and according to civic officials, it is an easy target for terror attack due to its open space. Some of the important places in this area that are also soft spots are Marine Lines, Colaba Causeway, CST and Dhobi Talao.

A senior civic official informed that there is a plan to develop an underground market similar to Delhi's Palika market in place of the existing Fashion Street.

"Apart from Mumbaikars, the market is also popular among foreign tourists. So, we wanted to develop the market, and give it a new look," added the official.

Though the market has not yet seen any terror-related activity, the police are keeping a constant vigil and communicating with the shopkeepers in the area about suspicious activities if any.

Mohhamad Nazrul Shaikh, a shopowner said, "The police are always in touch with us and have asked us to get in touch with them if we find some unusual activity in the area." He added that police are more vigilant after the 26/11 terror attack in the city.

"Things have changed a lot after the 26/11 attack. Now, police patrolling has increased and we have to be vigilant most of the time," said another shopowner.
