In the wake of 24-hour water cut in Dombivli and Kalyan, pipeline leakage of MIDC has added to water woes of Dombivli residents. While water is growing dearer, pipeline leakage in various areas of Dombivli is making the situation even worse, say residents demanding urgent repair of the leakages.

From October 21, various parts of Thane district which include Thane, Dombivli Kalyan have undertaken once a week (24 hours) water cut. This has been done to ensure that the current water stocks last till the next monsoon. However, residents of Dombivli say that MIDC's (Maharashtra industrial development corporation's) leaking pipeline at various locations in Dombivli east is bothersome.

"Since last two days, water is leaking from an MIDC water pipe near Pimpleshwar mandir in Dombivli. Water has been leaking from MIDC pipes at two spots in plot number 137 at Milapnagar for two months," says Raju Nalawade, president of Milapnagar Residents Association, Dombivli east. "We have been complaining to MIDC for last two months about the leakage in plot number 137 but nothing has happened," said he.

He also said that the leakage in MIDC's pipeline near Pimpleshwar mandir is an all-time problem. "This is a favourite spot of those who damage/puncture the MIDC's pipeline valves to meet their water needs. MIDC should take safety measures like putting up a CCTV to curtail future damage to this pipeline," he says.

MIDC on its part said that they have attended to these complaints of residents. "On Wednesday we have repaired a few spots. And will undertake more such repairs of our pipelines to save water," says Sanjay Narnavare, executive engineer, MIDC-Dombivli.
