Permanent driving licence to take Web route from Aug 15

It will soon be possible to apply for a permanent driving license online in Mumbai. As of now, only the learner's license can be procured by applying online.

The Transport Commissioner's office has issued a circular asking the Regional Transport Offices in Mumbai to start online appointment system for permanent driving licences from August 15 onwards. Driving schools have now demanded that they been given certain slots in the online system to clear their quota of driving licences. A final decision on the date of launch and other details like motor drivins school will be accomodated within the system, is expected soon. The backend work for launching the system is ready.

"On Monday discussions will be held on how to go about and a final call will be taken if we are launching the online system from August 15 or not," informed an official. At the moment, the plan is to begin the online appointment system for Mumbai Central and Andheri RTOs. These two RTOs already have the facility of taking appointment for leaner's driving licence. On an average 200-250 applications are processed daily at each of the RTOs that have online facility.
