Pen camera hidden in women's loo angers Malwani residents

In what seems to be an act of making obscene MMSes and circulating them, the Malwani police are probing a case wherein a camera was found hidden in a public toilet in Malad recently. A woman who had gone to the toilet discovered it and informed the police.

Police sources said the woman had visited the ground floor public toilet of a housing society in Malwani on Wednesday. The building houses shops on the ground floor, apart from the toilet.

"The common toilet has a wall partition. When the woman was inside the toilet, she saw something blinking from an object on top of the partition. That's how she found the camera," said an officer from Malwani police station.
The discovery created a huge furore in the area as the woman then informed society members and shop owners. The Malwani police were soon called, who reached the spot and seized the camera.

"The camera can make a video of about 10 minutes, good enough to make an MMS. As its battery life was low, it had started blinking, leading to the woman spotting it," the officer said.

The camera has been given to the forensic department to check whether anything was recorded in it and if it was used to make recordings earlier too. "It appears that the camera was placed in the toilet to film women. We are making inquiries with security guards of the building and shop owners to get leads about the suspect. We suspect some local miscreant is involved in this," said the officer.

"We have registered an offence under section 354-C of the Indian Penal Code and are on the lookout for the culprit," said senior inspector Prakash Patil.
